I can’t believe the Princess Half Marathon is THIS WEEKEND!
Nor can I believe how awesome the medal is:
Ok – I can believe it. EVERY Disney medal is awesome. But how did they know I needed wanted a PURPLE medal?!
Since I’m racing this weekend, I’m tapering this week.
Actually, my taper started on Saturday by running 7 miles (instead of 11 like the rest of my running group that’s training for SRQ). We didn’t see any craziness this week though. Bummer.
Sunday was a rest day (yay!) and then yesterday I rode an easy 11+ miler to get myself out to Anna Maria Island for a BEACH DAY! (I had the day off.)
I split the ride up into 2 parts – 5.77 miles to get out to the island then 5.94 on/around the island.
A beach day is not complete without lunch & lounging followed by a sunset before dinner.
Not sure why that lady’s glaring at me…
The rest of my taper week looks like this:
-
Tonight I’ll run an easy 3 miler.
-
Wednesday I’ll go to 6pm spin but will take it easy.
-
Thursday I’ll run 3 easy miles while most of our running group does speed work.
-
Friday I’ll rest.
-
Saturday I’ll rest.
And Sunday I’ll RUN LIKE A PRINCESS for 13.1 miles in a tutu that may or may not be made of this:
Apparently I’m not going to be a very “princessey” princess!
Basically I’ll be getting in one less workout than usual (taking an extra rest day – Saturday – the day before the race) and I’ll be making sure my workouts are less intense. That way my legs will (hopefully) be nice and fresh for the event! I’ve tried taking several extra rest days before a race & that always seems to backfire.
WHAT ABOUT YOU: How do you usually taper for a race? Or do you skip tapering altogether?
No way!! I am all about the taper. I only change my 2 days prior for half marathons, but for marathons, 2 weeks before I am doing less intensive exercises for sure!
I think it’s super smart to taper that long for a marathon. I’ll have to remember that when I put together a plan for MCM!
I love the taper!!!!! Bring it on!
I have to run Disney one of these days. Those medals are so worth it!
I am so excited for you! I have always wanted to do this race, and will one day. I did the Disneyland Half in 2010 and loved it. Can’t wait to read your recap!
I think it would be so awesome to go across the country and run one at Disneyland!
do it! I’m thinking of Tinkerbell next year. Want to join me if I do?
If I can afford to make the trip!
Good luck this weekend, the Princes Half was my first half ever & I loved it. You’re going to have a great experience!
I’ve heard GREAT things about Princess – I’m super excited to run it! I’ve done 3 other Disney races (one of the benefits of living 1.5hrs from Orlando) and they were all “magical” but I have a feeling this one is going to be even better!
Your tutu is super amazing. It’s going to look even better with that medal draped around your neck
Kick some butt this weekend!!
