These boots…I mean shoes…were made for…
…Walking…and that’s just what they’ll do…as we traipse back and forth through McCarran International Airport killing time during a three hour layover. (What? I forgot about the time difference between Tampa and the Pacific Coast…)
Yep – that’s a brand spankin new pair of Asics GT-2160s. Picked ‘em up yesterday evening before I started packing for our trip.
I’ve sworn by Asics for some time now – starting out with the GT-2140s about 2 years ago, then moving into the 2150s last year
And now this beautiful pair. As soon as I found the GT21-series (they increase the number each “model year”) I know I found the shoes for me. Before the 2140s, I got shin splints a lot and had lots of other leg pains. But once I got fitted for these bad boys I was all set.
So when the pink pair I had started feeling like 2x4s on my feet I knew it was time to invest in a new pair.
Because I have ginormous feet (size 12 thankyouverymuch) I had to special order them from my local running store – On A Shoestring. You see, most places only carry up to 11 in-house.
As soon as I saw the upgraded 2160s it was blatantly obvious that these were still the shoes for me:
SEE THAT? Yep – that’s PURPLE and BRIGHT GREEN accents you see there – not a fancy trick I came up with to make them match the ActiveEggplant theme. Yep, these shoes were READY MADE for yours truly – perfect fit, no major changes since the 2150s and my colors.
Diggity laughed at me for how excited I as about all of the purple. What can I say, I’m easy to please!
These shoes were also made for racing…and that’s just what they’ll do…on Saturday…in the Windermere Half Marathon.
I’m admittedly breaking that “no new shoes in a race” rule that so many people talk about. I look at it this way:
- I’m not planning on “racing” on Saturday – I just want to get the miles in and finish with a smile on my face.
- I know these shoes work for me – seeing as I’ve worn the same model for so many pairs now I’m confident that these won’t rub or pinch in any way. They never have before – and I wore my last pair for a 10 miler on my 2nd run in them…what’s 3.1 more?
- I’m considering a full 13 hour day in these bad boys a fully acceptable “break in period”. Instead of going the uber comfy route & wearing flip-flops or Chuck Taylors during our marathon airport adventure from Tampa to Spokane.
And with that my friends…I’m going to put my feet up and relax for a few more minutes until we board our next flight.
WHAT ABOUT YOU: Would you ever break the “no new shoes during a race” rule? Or do you think I’m being crazy here?
I am getting a new pair of running shoes tomorrow and I’m so excited! They are Asics, and I ordered them online… so fingers crossed they work out!
Hope the new shoes work out for you! I think i get more excited about new running shoes now than I do “real life” shoes – amazing!
I am sure you’ll be fine in your new purple-green-awesome shoes!!
Have fun at your half… Have a safe trip and have a great weekend!
I wear a size 12 in my Asics 2150s too. Those colors are GREAT. I must get them. I order from Zappos though! Shame on me, but it is just easier for big feet people like me (and you!)
In all honestly, if it weren’t for OAS I would probably order online now that I know what works for me. But I’m pretty attached to OAS – we’ve been shopping there since they opened their doors in 2005 & just love the owners…so we don’t mind shelling out the extra $$ to support them. (Would totally NOT pay the $$ at a big box or large chain sports store.) Yay for women with big feet!!!
You know I LOVE the purple accents on the shoes! Purple is my all-time favorite. I’m thinking about having some Nike Frees custom made with purple.
I love that purple!! I broke in my new kicks on an 8 mile run. They still felt wonderful.
Good luck and just get the miles in. It will be great.
Those are some great shoes! I love that fresh-pair feeling. New shoes are not only great for you (your calves, back, and quads/hams), but psychologically wearing new gear is really rewarding. I always make a point to buy myself a new workout shirt, or pair of shorts whenever I hit one of my micro-goals (a certain weight lifted on a particular exercise, hitting a bf% goal, etc). It’s great positive reinforcement!
Rewards like that are such a great idea! Although my rewards tend to be non-fitness related…like a new work shirt or a special dinner out. I tend to get workout gear when I see a good deal and shoes only when my current pair is about to bite the dust.
