The day has FINALLY arrived!
Today I picked up Larry Long Haul!
We picked him up in Carrolwood and then had lunch at GrillSmith – it was pretty good!
Then it was straight home to put the finishing touches on Larry!
Here he is “straight out of the box”. You’ll see we still need pedals…
So I learned how to put pedals on a bike!
Did you know that they screw in backwards? Righty Loosey, Lefty Tighty!
Took me a disturbingly long time to actually get the hang of that…
Then I was out for a test spin
Larry rides so smoothe – he’s NOT twitchy like my Felt road bike “Red Beard”.
I can even pedal no handed on Larry – haven’t done that since I was a KID!
Then it was back inside for some water bottle cages and a fender
Here’s one of the coolest thing we discovered about Larry…
He has a spoke holder and EXTRA SPOKES!
You know, for all the times your spokes break…
(does that really happen?)
And just so we’re all on the same page, the “fatties fit fine” decal is referring to mountain bike tires, commonly called “fatties” because they’re so wide in comparison to normal “road bike tires”. Larry’s frame can accomodate either skinny road tires, or fat tires for riding off road.
So if I really wanted, I could throw some MTB tires on Larry and hit the trails!
Our first plan is grocery shopping by bike! Till then I may just ride up & down my road 100 thousand times…
Congratulations! Actually, one pedal is left hand thread, the other right – always take the pedal off by turning to the back – the Wright Bros. invented this – bicycle mechanics made good.
Enjoy!
Maybe that’s why it took me so long to figure out how to get the 2nd pedal on!
I have a feeling I’m going to love this bike!!
