1st Week of Labor

I’m happy to report that so far I’m on track during my 5 Weeks of Labor challenge!

OK – Maybe I really shouldn’t celebrate yet since it’s only my 1st week

…but at least I haven’t given up already!  (This is a good sign for me as I usually end up with a big “F” for any challenges I participate in, whether it’s a self-imposed challenge or not.)

So here’s how the week ended up looking:

  • Rest Day Completed Monday :)
  • Swim 300 Yards + 5×800 Intervals Completed Sunday
  • 6pm Spin Class or Bike 6 miles Went to 6pm Spin on Wednesday
  •  Swim 400 Yards + Run 30 Minutes Completed Tuesday
  •  Yoga Completed Yoga On the Edge Thursday
  • Run 30 Minutes Completed Friday Evening
  • Bike 10 Miles Completed Saturday Morning

Obviously, Monday‘s rest day was the easiest.

The run and swim on Tuesday was HARD.  Well, the run not so much.  I ran a bit slow for 32min 25sec with an average of 11:46 min per mile, for a total of 2.75 miles.  I was tired, but felt pretty good.

Then the swim just about killed me – I felt like a lead weight in the water.

I sucked in more water than I have in a LONG time.  And I just couldn’t keep my body right at the surface.

On a happy note though – I could breathe to the left

Kate gave me a good tip the other week about always looking at (and thereby breathing to) the same side of the pool, no matter which direction I’m travelling.  This was much less intimidating than making myself breathe to the left for an entire workout – or even a whole lap.  I will definitley do this during EVERY swim now.

Wednesday was another GREAT spin class.  The AC in the studio was busted though so it was ultra hot – just made for a more intense workout if you ask me! It felt like the Heatmiser running around in there and occasitionally “stuffing it” in your face.

Thursday‘s Yoga session was Yoga on the Edge with Sara Ivanhoe.  I really really liked the workout.  But couldn’t stand Sara Ivanhoe’s narration.  It was SO ridiculously annoying that I might never do the workout again.   Like nails on a chalk board.

Seriously, it was that.bad.

Friday I ran at RP.  Pounded out 3 miles in 35min.  I was happy with that for a hot, end-of-the-work-week workout.  I initially set out with my camel back but turned around 5 min into the run to take it off because it was annoying me.  Then I started over.  And then I wished I had water with me for the next 3 miles…

Saturday brought a 10miler on Red Beard.  Nice and quick – I pursposefully kept my speed up going around tight bends just to get out of my comfort zone.  Normally I would break to a near stop.  It was pretty fun flying around them!  I didn’t even come close to whiping out!  SCORE!

After the 10 miler Diggity and I went up to Carrollwood and picked up my new bike!!!

Sunday was by far the hardest workout day for me.  I was also having a bad self-esteem day, so it made it THAT much harder to get off of the couch out of the house.

Lucky for me, Diggity decided to join me!  I don’t know about you, but it’s so much easier to work out with someone when you’re not feeling “into it”.

We set out for an interval run with 1/2 mile intervals.  Due to the heat we kept the “rest” periods at only 1/8th of a mile – just enough to recover.  We did 5 sets. It was a HARD (I’ve only done 1/4 mile intervals before) and once again it was, HOT.    Was supposed to be cloudy – but got REALLY SUNNY about 10 min into the run.  Thanks Weather Channel for leading us astray.

But I made we made it thru. (Diggity’s not feeling so well now though – so send some “don’t get sick” vibes his say, m’kay?)

After the run, I hopped on Larry and rode to the YMCA for 300 yards in the pool, plus warmup and cooldown.

I just barely made it home before the skies OPENED UP and it rained buckets for about an hour.  Then we had some fabulous Mexican food for dinner.

And now it’s time for ice cream bed.  (And this post is too WAY long…)

GREAT job on meeting your goals for week 1! Wohoo! And yay for a new bike :)
I completely agree. When you’re not feeling like exercise, a workout buddy is the perfect remedy!
